“I hate boys!”

so my sister said at the dining table.

It occurred to me that how boys and girls are never meant to enjoy each other’s company, never meant to appreciate the same things or even be together, since the day we’re born. And then this trend changes for the other extreme once they hit adolescence. It seems that their whole world revolves around the opposite gender, their whole life spent on attracting/thinking how to attract the opposite gender (in fact their whole purpose of going to school is probably to see that cute boy in the class), and their little fragile heart broken to find something called love from the opposite gender when sometimes it doesn’t exist. Boy and girls then lament at how they do not share similar interests, how one comes from Venus and the other comes from Mars, how they just do not understand each other. Why bother being together then? Such a strange thing, isn’t it? Isn’t this the whole “boys hate girls and vice versa” thing all over again but within a more intellectual context? Instead of saying “that stupid boy pulls my hair and thinks it’s very funny” you say ” men enjoy slapstick humour but we women don’t appreciate it.” See? It’s funny how when my lil’ sis (she’s just ten years old) complained about the boys in her class, I actually share some of her sentiments. But I still told her, “he pulls your hair because he likes you.”
