That was my dinner.
Pan fried king scallop in cooking wine, garlic and a drizzle of oyster sauce, zucchini and mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. Wanted to roast the vegetables but found it too cumbersome to do so. It took me barely half an hour! I’m making katsu chicken curry tomorrow~!;)

tough decision (the those on the right)

Time Square
Ok, went to nyc last weekend. This must have been the worst decision so far coz it simply rained cats and dogs the moment we stepped out of our dorm and the rain stopped the moment I reached Grand Central on my way back.
Had great food and did some shopping, which are the essence of being alive! And then had a great house party and met some awesome people! NYC is way way better than New Haven (duh.) so I’ve decided to stay in and finish all my work during the weekdays and live it up during the weekends. Yale=studying. NYC= fun.
Updates.
I’ve been out almost every night since the pub crawl. The student social service centre and the Overseas International Service centre are amazing! Every week they have arranged a whole list of exciting, fun events from movies with mimosas to live karaoke to barbeques. Today is roasted marshmallows and hotdogs! I’d love to go for the Sunset Cruise or brunch cruise sometime before the term gets too busy and the weather gets too cold. By the way,the weather here is ten times lovelier than that in London and five times drier than that in Singapore. PERFECT for picnics and outdoor activities! And most of the time you just chat with people and make new friends, how wonderful that is! On Friday we had a First Friday Luau party with free cocktails, wine, finger food in the couryard that is filled with green patches of grass. People were wearing leis and holding their little wooden umbrellas from their cocktails, what a pretty sight. :)
Next Wednesday there is this reception with our dean and I’ll be heading to NYC on Friday. Sat-houseparty in NYC. Ok, things are much better than what I first expected when arrived! Too bad there is no culture of taking photos for such events and I am too lazy to carry a camera around and do self shots(that is just weird over here) so no pics. I have no idea why i am even updating this blog it seems like I’ve lost such interest so maybe I’ll shut it someday.

Library

Library
I just popped by for like 10 minutes and I already feel much more intellectual. (not true, duh)
But I’ve changed my Homepage to CNN instead of BBC, tried to read some news and get myself more updated not on the latest fashion trends but on world events. I mean, this is Yale. The last thing I want is to sound like a stupid fool who doesn’t belong here or deserve this place. Although, I think I’m pretty much worth it ;)

This is the freaking library!

Ok, basically I made a special trip library today just to take photos so I can show you guys what a wonderful library Yale has.
By the way, I won a 30 minute massage session at the Ladies’ Night today~!Never thought I have luck of this kind! Ladies’s Night was a fantastic idea. Snacks, drinks, Sex and the City, chair and hand massage, makeup session, lucky draw. My friends must be laughing at me at this very point. Haha. Something more for you to laugh about, I lust after this mineral foundation 7 pieces set by Bare Minerals. Yes it’s so me (at certain points in time). And yes I am from Yale.
beware of highstreetmax.com
Basically my dad’s credit card got scammed. This is a result of booking something from lastminute.com and clicking/failed to uncheck some boxes.
For a freaking a year and a half, his credit card was charged 14 pounds on a monthly basis for the so called membership to highstreetmax, which is under this marketing/advertising firm called vertrue. Guess where it is based? CONNECTICUT. Oh great.
Basically, I am totally disgusted with such marketeers. I curse and swear that they will get some form of retribution like terminal illness, brain tumor and impotency. Yes I’m serious about it. Disgusted that they sold their souls to pieces of paper and cheat our money. Our hard money that is earned from hard, brainy work when they don’t do a shit other than coming up with such scams. I won’t even call it brilliantly crafted coz it is just despicable. They do anything for money. Anything. Even animals are more civilised and sophisticated than them, and of course let’s hope they lead a life worse than that of animals. I’m sure they do. When the punishment comes, that’s when it all starts and ends.

Went to Ikea yesterday and bought hell lot of stuff!Anyway, was glad that I went for the pub crawl :D
On the plane.......
So much has happened that despite having been here for about 3 days, I feel as if I’ve run the errands for the whole month!Anyway, just thought it is atypical of me to watch so many films on the plane since I used to sleep my way through long haul flights to London.
From Singapore to London: Amelie (I’ve always wanted to watch this but when I watched it, I couldn’t understand some parts and that motivated me to become smarter)
Soon after, I succumbed to 17 again coz of Zac Efron, it was surprisingly entertaining!
From London to New York: The Duchess (trying to act smart again, but this time I could understand most of things despite their perfect Queen’s English. It’s just that if not for the fact that it is based on a true story, it would be a very boring film)
A Beautiful Mind (trying to act intellectual again. Hated myself for not watching it earlier, especially when we were learning Game Theory. I would have treated it with much more respect! Here I announce that Sir John Nash has just risen to the top of my Idol list. ;)
Ikea and pub crawl tomorrow!

Cute things
Today has been a really busy day for me. Was late for Matriculation in the morning…(so typical of me, the speeches were quite boring anyway since they just read off from the script)
Went to the President’s house for reception afterwards. I am enjoying the sun, the blue sky and the greenery here. It is so different from London…away from the gloomy city and shops (which is really sad for me but it helps me to cultivate the virtue of saving, I guess). Met some people here and I realise it is really good to be grad students!Grad students aren’t as pretentious as undergrad students who might be overly eager to fit in and we are all very confident individuals who pretty much talk to anyone, everyone about anything and everything. People here are so much friendlier (even if it’s just pretense). From the registrar to the sales person at the phone store, everyone just talks to you like you are their good friend. It doesn’t have to be real, but you just feel good about it you see. You are probably not going to see them anytime soon so it really doesn’t matter. I’m not sure why we kept comparing here to London when in fact we are from Singapore, but having studied in London for 3 years coming here makes us feel like we moved from the city to the suburban area. Where is my BOOTS and SUPERDRUG?TOPSHOP and ZARA?Ok, it’s just our second day!
Dinner was at the Bar, which was nice and we had a nice get together with all (well, most of) the IDE people and it felt absolutely brilliant to talk to people from all over the world. This is despite the fact that so many of us are either from Asia or having studied in /lived in the UK. Singapore, China, HK, Thailand, India, Japan, London, Peru, America. It’s just amazing!I’m starting to like it more here, coz of the amazing opportunity it offers me to meet many different people!
here I am.
in Yale.
So far, don’t like their coins. Coins here go by a dime and a quarter dollar.
Don’t like their phone plans. You have to pay for incoming text and phone calls as well. Phone plans don’t include text.
Don’t like how you have to pay 5 USD just to use a trolley at the airport. Which other country does that?? Oh, maybe they need to finance their huge deficit.
beautifulwithbrains.com
is my latest find. I love the site for the fact that not only it has reviews on various makeup/skin products, it also explains to you what are some of the common chemicals used in cosmetics! This makes me feel a billion times smarter~! It also gives “mini lessons” on how to treat sunburns, how to apply makeup etc etc. Everything is explained clearly in a professional way. I mean, even if you don’t love the website, you HAVE to love the name. Who doesn’t want to be beautiful with brains??!I do.

Mild version of photo-whoring at Helipad

Can tell we are getting...wiser

Random photos. I am losing interest in blogging and facebook. Will update more in Yale but Singapore is where I feel most comfortable(therefore least excited about) so everything I do is what I normally do. My friends fill my mind and time, so blogging is almost impossible.Everytime you see me blog, it’s because I have NOTHING BETTER TO DO. ;) Anyway it’s the holidays for me so my brain functions on a very different wavelength from my school days, therefore not much thinking is involved. But wait for my posts from September onwards, this would be some sort of platform (it has always been, kind of) for me to get in touch with people at home. Ciao for the time being~~
P/s: I really like Helipad, it’s got techno/house/electro music and nice viewing gallery (basically a rooftop bar where you can get away from the thumping music and take in the not-so-breathtaking view of Clarke Quay and be entertained by the screams of the reverse bungee jumpers). AND its Lychee Mojitos is only 5++ on Wednesday nights!(not sure if it only applies to the ladies though) Nice place to chill out with friends ;)
